We caught up with Martin from Hungary who loves wing foiling in the summer, but we were also impressed with his snow and ice wing footage. We asked him a little about what got him into the sport and this is what he had to say..
"I am Martin from Tapolca, 22 years old. I live in Tata, Hungary.
The wing itself came to me when I had some knowledge of windsurfing, but it was boring for me. I have been sailing on Tata with my boat for about 6 years. I saw videos on the net about the wing. I really liked it.
One of my friends Robi Sellei started manufacturing wing boards in Hungary. I also bought a 140 liter board from him. I bought my wing from an old friend of mine who is the Hungarian SIC MAUI distributor, Gyula Pregun. I bought a SIC RAPTOR wing from him, size 6. I also bought my current foil from a surfer friend, it's a gong allvator foil set, which is more for kite foils, but it worked perfectly for me.
My current set is a 100 liter ROBS board, Gong Allvator foil with an 85cm mast and SIC Raptor Wing size 6.
In terms of wind, I like both small wind and big wind, the six wing is the perfect middle ground in my opinion, at least here in Hungary. Good in low winds and not too much in higher winds.
In the summer of 2023, my plan is to practice jumps with the wing, and I want to take turns to a professional level.
In the summer, I go winging on the Öreg Lake in Tata. It's a small lake, 7km around, but it's perfect, I love it.
We also go winging in winter :) If the lake freezes over, there, or on the Tési plateau with skis and snowboards. I really like winging while skiing, but unfortunately in Hungary it snows less and less and it is less and less cold.
Since my full-time job is in film and marketing, I also openly make videos while on the wing. I use Gopro hero 10 and gopro max cameras, attached to a wing, but mostly on my head. We often video each other, we learn from this.
I think that anyone who wants to start this sport should definitely have some knowledge of sailing or basic windsurfing... until you can control the wing on the shore, it is unnecessary to go on the water. it's time :)
I also like winter winging, but summer even better. I hope I will soon reach a level where I can compete!".

Thanks Martin!
