One of the main barriers to land based Wing Skating in all its forms is the cost of getting your hands on a Wing.
If you are looking for a Wing larger than 4m you can expect to pay upwards of £5-600 to over £1000 for decent sized new branded Wings.
This is a problem for many who just want to try and are not using an existing wing already for water based wing foiling. For smaller adults and children, Decathlon have a 1.5 & 2.5m 'Skate Wing' for £130 & £160 which may be a great option for smaller people or those experienced skaters who want a smaller wing for use in stronger winds - 20mph+ we reviewed them here.
So, what are the options?
Based in the USA, Kitewing offer an framed alternative to the usual bladder blown Wings.
Used with ice skates, snowboards and skis with about 7 or so wing designs ranging in price from around $500-$2000
Still, not particularly cheap but still a good alternative - check it out in action here
Alternatively, if you are handy with some DIY skills, grab yourself an old windsurf boom and attach some piping and sail material and away you go!
Most if not all Wing Foil retailers sell Wings - which we know aren't cheap - however it's worth keeping an eye out for sales, Black Friday deals, busy shopping or seasonal times. Maybe if you use social media, subscribe to their channels and newsletters so you are kept aware of any deals that may be available.
For example, we found this which we think is a pretty good deal for a new branded large Wing size. NKX 5m for £405 at Euroskateshop.uk.
Here it is in action
You can expect to pay upwards of £3-400 for a decent sized branded second hand wing from Ebay, Craigslist - But there ae also some deals to be got - we saw this 4m Aztron for £329 on Ebay
Also, Ebay and other online retailers also offer finance schemes to make the purchase less painful - so another good option to use.
